0 deg on the way to work this morning but after a half week of sub zero temps it didn't really seem that cold.

It's amazing how quickly you can adapt...'less yr a pussy. ;)

Winter has finally arrived here in upstate Vermont. Snow on the ground and 20° highs with single digit lows. Up to now we have been getting snow followed by rain, which sucks. Of course power outages and flooding make all that slush just all the more enjoyable.

that is one of the most interesting things about the human body to me. It is so shocking how cold 15° feels after having temps in the 40's. But how refreshing it feels after temps have been -15°

Out of curiosity, do you feel the same about high temps. I feel like people are biased towards one or the other. People will say you can get used to extreme cold or that you can get used to extreme heat, but rarely its seems they will acknowledge both.

It was 16 degrees this morning; made me so cocky I thought "meh, I don't need my long underwear".  I alao worw a short sleeve shirt under my coat. About froze my balls off walking in to work.

I am definitely a cold weather over hot weather kind of guy. My furnace can keep up, even in sub-zero temperatures. My ac cannot keep up with the hottest part of a Kansas summer.

LOL...yep.

When my kids were younger, on a cold winter day they would complain about the temperature in the house, saying things like "Dad, it's freezing in here!"

My response was always the same.
"If you think it's cold in the house, go stand on the porch for 10 minutes then come back inside."  :harhar:

None of them ever took me up on that.

Coming from Southern California (300-ish days of sunshine and 2-ish seasons) to Utah less sun, much colder climate in the winter and 4 seasons. The summer has FAR fewer 100+ days in Utah (I'd guess total 100+ deg. days at our old place was around 15-ish), here in Utah, last summer (we were not here the whole summer, but we did not have any).

We've adapted to the "cold" pretty well. Of course, it's only been in the single digits late at night, and temps for the last month or so have been mostly in the 30's and 20's with a few days in the 40's and a few in the teens. Compared to many places, it's not really that cold here. We got a healthy snow dump this morning. based on my sidewalk, I'd venture we got 4" over the course of a few hours. Waiting a bit before I go out and shovel.

After you are there a couple of winters, and you finally buy a snow blower, you will wonder why you waited so long!

A few inches is usually no more than an inconvenience, and I usually still shovel some, but when it gets to be 6" or more, the snow blower gets fired up and the job gets done.

Side note: Some people call them snow blowers, and some call them snow throwers.
Really no difference, but a buddy of mine always used to tell this joke...

"My snow thrower quit on me last winter..."
[pause]
"I think I'll buy her a new shovel this year!"

Del.

I just wait for the snow and ice to melt anymore.

I actually have one. Bought it the day after we signed papers in June. Perfect time to buy a snow blower. Got it for a steal. Had only 1 season on it. Guy was moving and needed to get rid of it.

I'm going to shovel as long as I can. It's good exercise. Now, if I'm in a hurry I'll use the snow blower.

Two people need to be publicly flogged for that; the driver of that vehicle, and the turd that programmed that sign.

Good deal!
Yeah, shoveling is good exercise, but when you get a foot or so of heavy, wet snow all at once, it gets old fast!

Also, wrestling with a snow blower is usually a good workout in itself.

If your property is generally level, not so much, but part of my yard where I make a path to walk my dog out back is downhill / sidehill which requires some manhandling of the snow blower to get it to go where I want.

I'm pretty lucky. everything is relatively level including the driveway. I've got a couple hundred feet of sidewalk. The first time I shoveled (a few weeks ago) took me about 2 hour 30min. Figured some efficiency things out along the way and I got it down to about 1 hour 30min to 1 hour 45 min. depending on how much of the neighbor's sidewalk I feel like doing. Today I was good for another 25-30 feet.

I shoveled it today before it got a change to get wet. Snow here is pretty dry... mostly.

There's like 3 people in the neighborhood that have not cleared their sidewalks and they are all on corners, 2 of them didn't even clear their driveways.
