I don't think that some of the parents in these situations are taking it serious enough and they share some of the blame.

I don't claim to know the answers but i think it best to first analyse the problem.

3. Media only popularizing crime of certain demographics at certain times in election cycles?

After the amazing job the media did on the world population, getting such a high rate of people rolling up their sleeves for an experimental treatment, I'll never doubt the awesome power of the media.

I suppose it depends on which Chicago shootings you're talking about? 

All shootings are awful.

School shootings are the worst.  Kid's shouldn't have to worry about being murdered when they go to school and I hate how easily it gets dismissed with political arguments. 

10 kids murdered in school = of fuck, they're coming for our guns.

Gang murders get no sympathy from me.

Random people running around killing people for no reason is going to fuck it up for the responsible gun owners eventually. You'd think that they would like to come up with a solution to the problem at some point?
