This kinda sucks for signal. It's known to be one of the better end to end encryption chat apps. I think that snowden recommended it at some point?  This gives them a bit of a black eye even though it wasn't their fault. AFAIK their app is still rock solid.

The .gov had a hand in dev of that app.  It's not truly "secure".  There is another that exists.

The UK parliament all use Whatsapp.
During all the convid lockdown shite and the dodgy millions$$$$ in contracts that were given to their mates, subsequently when asked to produce docs....they had deleted the conversations.
Same also happened to the EU (unelected) boss wonderlayden who agreed to purchase 10 jabs for each person in Europe with Bourla (pfizer boss) - she also deleted the conversations "but the agreement is binding".
And the excuse for all of this shite, is "whatsapp is secure and messages are unrecoverable"
