I never thought I would be, but I am becoming convinced we should.

from the DEA website, fentanyl is the leading cause of death of people under 50. 71941 people per year. 107,375 if you count all drug overdose deaths.

I know that we can't stop all of that, but we can stop these cartels. There was a government report that the US could stop the obliviate the cartels with the US military. But of course, that is a diplomatic problem. But the US should be threatening in a real way to Mexico that it is coming if they don't do something about it. And we should be convincing the Mexican people that we are serious about it, if they don't elect someone who plans to stop the cartels.

Quote from: Smit on May 12, 2023, 10:56 AMI don't know about teaching children to hate our country though. Teaching history is necessary, the good and the bad. This country has done a lot of really good things and also a lot of awful things. If that's what you're talking about.

I think that teaching history is fine. Every Country has negative history. Ours is the only one that teaches our Children to hate our Country because of it's history.

Quote from: Smit on May 12, 2023, 09:15 AMThe quick answer is fix the fkn world so there aren't as many people fleeing their home countries to come here. Easy right?

Perhaps I don't really understand your gross oversimplification of "letting in inordinate amount of people and throwing money at them." To me it's just rewording other people claims that the border is open and people come as they wish, which is really ignorant. Or is that not correct?

QuoteAfter more than 11,000 migrants were caught crossing the southern border on Tuesday, the Biden administration is now preparing a memo that will direct Customs and Border Protection to begin releasing migrants into the U.S. without court dates or the ability to track them, according to three sources familiar with the plans.

I guess it's an inordinate amount when it gets to the point that your border is so overrun that you just let people in. Many of these people, not all, will require social services.  Children will need schooling. People need access to health care. All these things cost the taxpayers. You have states such as mine that are giving illegals licenses and the right to vote in at least local elections. I guess you don't find that to be absurd but many do.

What happened to the liberal viewpoint that we are not the world's police? So we should now be going into these countries to fix them? How's that worked out for us in the past? It is a huge complicated issue to be sure. But you sure aren't going to fix it by trying to take in every person in the world who who shows up at your doorstep. It's just not feasible.

In 2020 Biden promised that he was going to double the amount of immigration judges. He's now up to 23%. In his first budge proposal with a democrat majority house, he proposed funding for a 17% increase.

I'm not sure what you mean. While I'm sure with the hundreds of millions of people in this country there are some people who do that but I'd like to think that's not wide spread.

Before title 42 it was common to release overflow people with court dates that they may or may not attend. I, too, don't like the idea of giving illegals licenses. You sure assume a lot.

As for the 2nd half of that, are you talking about Beej? He's the one who thinks it's a good idea to send our military into Mexico, not me.

I would agree that Biden needs to place a higher priority on streamlining this for sure.

Any opinions on Kamala spearheading the border problem? Can anyone name just one thing she has done to improve the border situation? Does it not reflect on Biden choosing her?

Someone is teaching these kids to wear Hugo Chávez shirts without fully knowing who he was or what he was about.  It wasn't my generation of teachers.

We can't blame her anymore for that then we'll be able to blame her for AI taking our jobs in the future.
