What percentage of people get their news exclusively  from social media now? None of the information vetted?


That's fuckin scary. 

I'm not sure what "get's their news from social media" actually means. There are lots of news sights on social media. I get most of my news from FB posts that are actually from our local fox, abc, cbs, and nbc. So if people are doing what I'm doing, I don't really see the problem there. So I don't really know what that stat means. but that is side tracking from what I'm talking about.

If the 2 options are:
1) an abundance of truth and misinformation,
2) Government deciding what is true and what isn't and limiting us to seeing what they say is true

those really are the only 2 options, which do you prefer?

It occurred to me a while back that something that might be telling is a sticky thread containing the new conspiracy theories that come out so we can look back at them and really get a percentage of how many have actually come true.

It's true not everything on Facebook is misinformation, nor was everything on Twitter misinformation. Credible news agencies posted on Twitter too.

It's pretty clear there is a lot of misinformation. And it seems now more than ever people just believe what feeds their confirmation bias and don't really care if it's true or not.

I say now more than ever but that's probably not true. I'm sure it's always been like that but social media now enables people to target those things in a way they couldn't before.
